During that month, forgotten memories of the past arose. I remembered the days when my mother divorced my father and then my sister and I moved to an apartment no bigger than the room in the movie Room."

Room's Ma character reminds Larson of her difficult childhood: "Back then, I only had two pairs of jeans and a few shirts, one pair of shoes. Every night, we ate Top Ramen. But my mother was very creative. She breathed life into the living space and made my sisters and I feel like we had everything."

For the first five weeks of filming, the film was shot in a room measuring just over 3 square metres in Toronto. "It was exhausting for the crew because it was so cramped. You could feel the momentum in the room. People would go in and want to get out. The feeling of being trapped in that room was very real."From the time the film was shot until the part where Ma returned home and reunited with her mother, I became so weak and fragile that I almost lost connection with everyone. I felt like I was unable to communicate with others," Larson said.
