US detects Russian Tu-142 aircraft in Alaska air defense identification zone

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said it identified and tracked two Russian Tu-142 aircraft that entered the Alaskan air defense identification zone on Monday (March 29).

"At 04:50 (20:50 Hanoi time), NORAD identified and tracked two Russian Tu-142 patrol aircraft entering the Alaskan air defense identification zone," NORAD said in a statement in Alaska.

They stressed that the Russian aircraft "did not enter US or Canadian sovereign airspace", but remained "in international airspace".

"As always, NORAD remains vigilant and ready to defend Canadian and US airspace sovereignty to deter and eliminate potential threats on approaches to our air and maritime domains," the US Command said in a statement.

Tu-142 makes a flight over the Barents Sea, Norwegian Sea and North Sea

Previously, the press agency ofRussian Northern FleetThe Russian Defense Ministry reported that two Tu-142 aircraft flew over the North Sea and the North-East Atlantic, as well as over the Barents Sea. The announcement noted that during the initial stage of the flight over the Barents Sea, the two aircraft were escorted by Su-33 fighter jets. The flight duration was approximately 11 hours. During the flight over the Norwegian and North Seas, they were accompanied by fighter jets of the Norwegian and British Air Forces.
