On August 4, the US State Department sent an official notice to the United Nations announcing its intention.withdraw from the Paris Agreement. However, this announcement does not mean that Washington has begun the process of withdrawing from this climate change agreement,Washington Postreport

The US State Department said the announcement was a "strong message" to the world, following President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement in June.

"The Paris Agreement on climate change has weakened the American economy, cost many jobs, weakened national sovereignty and put the United States at a disadvantage compared to other countries around the world," President Donald Trump explained his decision to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement in a speech at the White House in June.

However, Mr. Trump also affirmed that Washington will promote negotiations to seek another agreement "that is fairer to the United States, to businesses, workers, people and taxpayers for the United States."

"The State Department's announcement to the United Nations repeats what the President told the world on June 1 and it has no legal value," he said.Nigel Purvis, the official who handled climate change diplomacy under PresidentBill Clinton and George W. Bush.

GrandfatherPurvis said that three years after October 4, 2016, when the Paris Agreement came into effect, the US could officially withdraw from the agreement, and that process would take about a year.

America, the p countrysecond largest emitter of greenhouse gases after China,is one of 195 countries that joined the Paris Agreement on climate change. President Barack Obama signed the agreement in September 2016.
