US ready to help Iran overcome earthquake
The death toll from two earthquakes in Iran has risen to 300; 2,600 people were injured.
On August 12, the White House sent condolences to the Iranian people after the losses in two earthquakes that occurred on August 11, and affirmed that the US is ready to help Iran overcome current difficulties.
White House spokesman Jay Carney stressed that the American people always pray for the Iranian families whose loved ones died in the earthquake and hope for the quick recovery of the injured. The US is always ready to help Iran overcome the consequences of the earthquake.

Many other countries such as Russia and Pakistan also sent condolences to the Iranian people and offered to help the country overcome current difficulties.
The death toll from two consecutive earthquakes in northwestern Iran has risen to 300 and is expected to continue rising, according to the latest reports. Meanwhile, the Iranian Red Crescent said the number of injured has risen to 2,600.
According to Iran's Interior Ministry, the two powerful earthquakes damaged around 110 villages, 20 of which were flattened. Iran's Health Ministry quickly dispatched medical relief teams to the three northwestern provinces of East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan and Ardebil. More than 5,000 tents have been set up to accommodate more than 16,000 homeless people.
The first earthquake, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, had its epicenter just 10km below the ground, and the second earthquake, which occurred just 11 minutes later, measured 6 on the Richter scale and also had its epicenter at a depth of 10km.
