The era of tube transport is coming soon when a test track is built in January 2016. The US company Hyperloop Technologies has announced plans to build the first tube using vacuum technology at the Apex Industrial Park in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Hyperloop is a high-speed transportation system that uses vacuum tubes to allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 1,200 km/h without air resistance. The Hyperloop system is advertised as environmentally friendly thanks to the use of electricity from renewable energy sources.
The idea of Hyperloop was introduced by Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX Corporation, in August 2013. Two separate companies are developing the project, Hyperloop Technologies and Hyperloop Transportation Technologies.
With a budget of about $80 million, the Las Vegas project will produce a 3.2 km outdoor test track. The pods can accelerate from 0 to 540 km/h in just 2 seconds. The manufacturer aims to put the tube into testing in late 2016 or early 2017. Hyperloop Technologies' ultimate goal is to commercialize the project by 2020.
