(Baonghean.vn) - Under pressure from the Republican and Democratic parties in both houses of Congress to expand sanctions against Russia, the administration of US President Donald Trump is increasing pressure on the Kremlin on the grounds that "Russia has interfered in US political life".

Last week, the US State Department said it had summoned Russia’s top diplomat in Washington to deliver a message that the US would not “tolerate” the Kremlin if it “intentionally used social media accounts to incite violence and sow division in the United States”.

Social media companies are also taking action. Facebook is removing about 30 fake pages and accounts that it says were used to exploit social discord and use methods used by Russian agents.

The results of investigations conducted by the US Congress and media, as well as in the indictment of special counsel Robert Mueller, show that Russia used many forms of interference in the 2016 US presidential election, including the use of social media forums.

In addition, the US side also believes that another trick is that Moscow manipulated the National Rifle Association (NRA) - an association with great power and influence in American political life - to influence US policy towards Russia, through the character Maria Butina, a Russian, who was recently charged by a federal court with being a spy for the Kremlin.
