The rapid spread of the Delta variant and the slowdown in vaccination are believed to be the two main causes of this situation, forcing the CDC to recommend that Americans wear masks again and even re-apply measures to limit large gatherings in hot spots.
According to CDC data, the US is currently seeing about 120,000 new cases a day, mostly of the Delta variant. President Joe Biden's administration has warned that this variant could cause the US's epidemic graph to continue to rise in the coming weeks. This is also the assessment of health experts.
Not only because of the Delta variant, but also because of anti-vaccine sentiment among a segment of the American population, the number of new cases has increased sharply recently. To date, the United States has vaccinated 192.6 million people, but there are still many people who refuse to get vaccinated.
In a statement on August 3, President Biden criticized these people, saying they are the reason why the US is facing an anti-vaccine pandemic. US Covid-19 pandemic response coordinator Jeff Zients called on states to speed up the vaccination process.
The Delta variant is now present in over 100 countries worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that this will be the dominant variant globally.
