Is the US using NATO as a tool to control Europe?

"We can now say with confidence that America's irresistible desire to control Europe through NATO is the reason for maintaining NATO," the minister said.

According to Mr. Lavrov, this also makes "the Germans silent about the US sabotaging the "Nord Stream" pipeline just to eliminate competitors in the European energy market."

"They are ready to pay double the price they pay for Russian gas supplies through the US liquefied gas pipeline. The US especially needs NATO to subdue Europe," the Russian Foreign Minister pointed out.

Also at the meeting, Foreign Minister Lavrov affirmed that many experts believe that NATO should have dissolved after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Warsaw Pact.

“Today, many historians and political scientists in the West express the view that their colleagues have been stating for many years, perhaps even decades. This is the reality that when the Warsaw Pact no longer existed, when the Soviet Union joined hands with Europe, the United States and the West in general on the basis of equality, mutual benefit and respect, no one dissolved NATO and in fact no one planned to do so.”

Mr. Lavrov noted, "just yesterday, a famous American economist and political scientist, Jeffrey Sachs, raised this mistake in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson."
