“In support of hostage rescue efforts, the United States has resumed unarmed UAV flights over Gaza, and we continue to provide advice and assistance to support our Israeli partners as they conduct hostage rescue efforts,” Pentagon spokeswoman Lisa Lawrence said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in the face of harsh international criticism of the blockade and restrictions on the supply of food, water, fuel and medicine to the Gaza Strip, the Israeli government on December 7 defended its humanitarian responsibility. Elad Goren, the officer in charge of the Center for Coordination of Civilian Activities in the Occupied Territories (COGAT), affirmed that Israel is making every effort to provide aid to the Gaza Strip.

Speaking to reporters, General Goren stated: "We are trying to expand humanitarian aid and more than 600,000 tons of aid have been delivered to Rafah. We want the international community to increase aid operations... We are allowing hundreds of trucks into the Gaza Strip, it is just a logistical issue and the United Nations can distribute the aid inside Gaza." Mr. Goren also accused Palestinian militant groups of "taking food from humanitarian convoys" for their own use, instead of delivering it to the people in Gaza. In addition, Israel has also repaired water supply pipes and has allowed a limited amount of fuel into the Gaza Strip.
