The fighter jets were launched from the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier yesterday after it entered the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal, Reuters reported, citing the US Navy. The force did not provide information on whether the target was in Iraq or Syria, or what type of target was attacked.
The move demonstrates the carrier's ability to conduct long, sustained missions, even while moving from one area to another, a senior US Navy official said.
The USS Truman and other ships in the strike group also operated with the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gualle. The USS Truman is a key element of the country’s fight against IS targets while serving in the 5th Fleet area of operations.
