The US continues to warn China and Russia about Snowden.
On June 24, the White House issued a stern warning that Hong Kong's decision to allow former CIA employee Edward Snowden to leave the special administrative region had undermined efforts to build trust in US-China relations.

In an unusually direct criticism of Beijing, White House spokesman Jay Carney stated: "Regarding the Chinese government, we will not accept that this was a lawful decision by a Hong Kong immigration official. This was a deliberate government choice to release a refugee despite a valid arrest warrant, and that decision will undoubtedly have a negative impact on U.S.-China relations."
According to spokesman Carney, the White House believes Russia should comply with the U.S. request to extradite Snowden back to his home country.
Mr. Carney mentioned increased cooperation with Russia in law enforcement following the Boston double bombings, and that the U.S. had extradited "numerous top criminals to Russia at the request of the Russian government."
Spokesman Carney added that the countries Snowden chose to seek refuge in contradicted his own statements that he supported transparency, freedom of the press, and individual rights.
