US releases bodyguard of international terrorist Osama bin Laden
AFP reported on September 22 that the Pentagon announced that Abdul Shalabi - a Saudi Arabian man accused by the US military of being a bodyguard for international terrorist Osama bin Laden - had been repatriated after more than a decade of detention at Guantanamo Bay.

"The United States has been working with the Government of Saudi Arabia to ensure the transfer is consistent with appropriate security measures and humanitarian treatment," Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said.
Shalabi was captured by the Pakistani military in December 2001 and transferred to Guantanamo in January 2002./.
