US declares no preparations for military campaign in Venezuela

Responding to questions from lawmakers at the hearing about whether a military operation in Venezuela was being prepared, Abrams replied: "This is not the policy of the United States. Our policy is to pursue humanitarian, economic, diplomatic ways to support the desire of the Venezuelan people to carry out democratic transitions."

According to him, "a military campaign is not the way we like it, and it is not the way we are going. We are looking at all options" — Mr. Abrams added.

Earlier, in a similar hearing, the head of the US House of Representatives' foreign affairs committee, Eliot Engel, said that Congress would not agree on a policy for military operations against Venezuela.
