Speaking to reporters before the high-level dialogue between the two countries' foreign ministers and defense ministers, the unnamed official said: "We are asking all partners, not just India, to stop importing oil from Iran and I believe this will be part of our discussion with New Delhi.
There are very detailed talks going on between the US and India on technical issues related to reducing imports to the lowest level and these talks will continue."
India is a major importer of oil from Iran, a country that is the target of US sanctions.
