US and Ukraine begin talks on long-term security commitment
(Baonghean.vn) - The US State Department said in a press release that Washington and Kiev have begun negotiations on long-term security commitments.

The talks began on August 3, with the participation of representatives of the US State Department, the Pentagon and the National Security Council, along with their Ukrainian counterparts.
“The bilateral commitments are aimed at providing Ukraine with a sustainable foundation capable of protecting Kiev now,” the statement said.
The talks follow a commitment made by the Group of Seven (G7) on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, last month. G7 members agreed to negotiate separate agreements to provide security guarantees and help Ukraine strengthen its military capabilities.
Earlier, on August 3, the Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine Andrei Yermak wrote on Telegram that the United States is Ukraine's largest strategic partner, and became the first country with which Ukraine began negotiations on security guarantees, thereby creating a successful model with other partners. More than 10 countries have joined the G7 statement, and Kiev will begin discussing future security guarantees with each of them.
According to Mr. Yermak, these security guarantees will strengthen Ukraine's progress towards becoming a future member of the Euro-Atlantic community, including the EU and NATO. This is Ukraine's ultimate goal and the most reliable security guarantee.
