Myanmar deploys thousands more troops along its border with India.

The Times of India's online news site reported on July 26 that Myanmar has deployed an additional brigade of approximately 6,000 troops along its border with India.

Intelligence sources indicate that Myanmar currently has five brigades stationed along its 1,643-kilometer border with India. The decision to deploy additional troops may be aimed at preventing Indian Army special forces from launching further attacks on bases of anti-India militant groups hiding in Myanmar, similar to the attack earlier this June.

Reports indicate that Myanmar expressed outrage after a team of approximately 70 Indian special forces soldiers, armed with various weapons, raided two camps of the NSCN (K) and KYKL rebel groups from northeastern India, who were hiding in Myanmar territory.

Subsequently, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited Nay Pyi Taw and briefed Myanmar officials on the operation. Doval explained to the Myanmar leadership New Delhi's stance on militant groups that frequently carry out anti-government activities in the northeastern region bordering Myanmar.

Myanmar also expressed dissatisfaction with India's actions during a Joint Consultative Committee meeting in New Delhi on July 16. According to security estimates, there are currently around 60 camps belonging to anti-government rebel groups located on the Myanmar side of the border.
