"Russia asked us to provide evidence and we responded. This evidence includes electronic data showing that the Global Positioning System (GPS) signal was jammed. The Russian side thanked us and affirmed that they would respond after their experts re-examined the evidence,"ReutersMarch 18 quoted a statement by Norwegian Defense Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen.
Minister Bakke-Jensen assessed Russia's response as a positive move, and affirmed that the country will patiently wait for a specific answer from Moscow.
Asked whether Russia had deliberately carried out jamming operations targeting Norway, Bakke-Jensen replied: "They were exercising very close to the border and they knew that this would affect areas on the other side."
The Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS) released its annual national security report in mid-February, accusing the Russian military of attacking and paralyzing GPS signals during NATO military exercises in the north of the country.
Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila also accused Russia of causing widespread disruption of GPS signals during NATO's Trident Juncture military exercises in northern Europe in November last year. Moscow later denied the accusations, calling them baseless and demanding Oslo provide evidence.
