Nadal was almost eliminated in the opening match of the Basel tournament.

The Spanish tennis player successfully came back from a set down against Lukas Rosol at the ATP 500 tournament in Switzerland on October 26.

Rafael Nadal was on the verge of defeat against unseeded Rosol. The Czech needed just two more points in the second set to send Nadal out of the tournament in his opening match.

But the Spaniard overcame the difficult times, beating Rosol with the scores of 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(4). Nadal had 23 winners and 27 unforced errors.

"It was a very difficult match and a great victory," Nadal said after the match. "I need comebacks like this. I survived the second set and waited for the opportunity to come back."

Nadal lost the first set in 23 minutes, losing two breaks. Rosol served and returned very well in the first set. The Czech only lost one point on his serve (16 out of 17).

Rosol continued to show his strength in hitting from the baseline. The world No. 69 led 5-4 in the second set and won 30-0 in the 10th game. But Nadal broke brilliantly in this game and won the next two games to level the score.

In the third set, Nadal took a big lead with a 3-0 lead, then threw away the advantage when his opponent leveled at 4-4. The two players fought until the tie-break. Finally, the world number seven also won the ticket to the next round with a 7-4 victory in the penalty shootout.

On the evening of October 27, world number three Roger Federer will play his opening match.
