2016 - the year of 'departure' of many Vietnamese artists
(Baonghean.vn) - In 2016, Vietnamese fans were choked with emotion by the passing of many artists and singers. Names like Thanh Tong, Han Van Tinh, Pham Bang, Tran Lap, Thanh Tung, Minh Thuan... will forever stand the test of time.
1 - People's Artist Thanh Tong

People's Artist Thanh Tong, whose real name is Nguyen Thanh Tong, was born in 1948 in Saigon. He started singing at the age of 3. At the age of 20, he started writing scripts and contributed to the creation of the genre of Cai Luong Tuong Co, and is considered the leader of Cai Luong Tuong Co.
He took the trouble to research and incorporate many Vietnamese historical stories into traditional opera. Not only did he act and write scripts, he was also a very skilled director and was respected as a teacher by generations of artists.
Some of his plays include: The Sword and the Female General, Wind Blowing at Binh Than Wharf, Under the Tay Son Flag, Bao Gong Enters the Brick Kiln to Investigate the Case of Quach Hoe... He was awarded the title of People's Artist by the State in 2007 and was an artist who won the Mai Vang Award for many years as both an actor and director. He passed away at 10am on September 22 at his home in Binh Chanh District (Ho Chi Minh City).
2 - Meritorious Artist Han Van Tinh

Meritorious Artist Han Van Tinh was born in 1957 in Van Lang, Tam Nong, Phu Tho, and studied at the Theater Training School in Hanoi since 1973. After graduating from the Central Tuong Troupe (now the Vietnam Tuong Theatre), he held the position of troupe leader of troupe 2.
He is famous for his roles as Ly Dai Hy in the play “Black Sunset”, the royal physician in the play “Scream in the Royal Palace”, Hang Vo in the excerpt “Hang Vo Bai O Giang”, the Yuan Dynasty envoy in the play “Tran Hung Dao”, Tho Cong in “Bach Tinh”… Although he is a famous artist in the Tuong stage, he is better known to the audience for his supporting roles in television series. Especially the role of Chu Van Quynh in the film “Dat va nguoi”.
Meritorious Artist Han Van Tinh breathed his last at 11:20 on September 4, 2016 at his home on Vo Quy Huan Street, Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi, at the age of 59.
3 - Meritorious Artist Pham Bang

Meritorious Artist Pham Bang was born in 1931 in Hanoi. He is both a stage artist and a comedian. He is famous for his comedic roles that bring laughter to many audiences.
Pham Bang came to the theater early. In 1959, he joined the amateur theater troupe of poet Hoang Cam and writer Nguyen Huy Tuong. He was then recruited into the Hanoi Performing Arts Troupe. When the Hanoi Drama Theater was established, he took on many roles, becoming famous for his villainous roles.
In 1975, Pham Bang transferred to the Central Drama Troupe. Pham Bang won two Gold Medals at the National Theater Festival (the role of Ly Truong in the play Truong Ba's Soul, Butcher's Skin and the role of Thuong in Mo Doi Thuong).
In addition, he also participated in many comedy skits, Tet comedy, Gala laughter, Meeting at the end of the year... Participated in the films Saint's Day, Motherland. In 1993, artist Pham Bang was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist. He passed away at 8:00 p.m. on October 31 at a hospital in Hanoi, at the age of 85.
4 - Singer Tran Lap

Tran Lap (birth name Tran Quyet Lap), born on December 12, 1974 in Vu Ban district, Nam Dinh province. The youngest child in a poor family with many siblings, he showed signs of musical ability from a young age.
In 1994, he and some friends founded the rock band Buc Tuong and held the position of leader. He also took on the role of main composer with more than 30 songs, especially with the song Duong den dinh vinh quang, and together with his members, made Buc Tuong become the rock band with the largest number of fans in Vietnam.
In addition to singing, Tran Lap participated in several television shows, was a host, and was also a judge on the first season of The Voice of Vietnam. He passed away on March 17, 2016.
5 - Musician Thanh Tung

Musician Thanh Tung was born on September 15, 1948 in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa. At the age of 6, he followed his parents to the North and grew up in Hanoi. He graduated from the Pyongyang Conservatory of Music, North Korea in 1971, when he was only 23 years old. Returning to Vietnam, Thanh Tung took on the role of conductor of the Voice of Vietnam II Orchestra from 1971 to 1975. After that, he lived in Ho Chi Minh City and was one of the people who contributed to the establishment of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Light Orchestra. He also conducted the choir and directed the art of the Lotus Song and Dance Troupe before working at the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association.
During his lifetime, Thanh Tung was famous for his wandering and free-spirited soul. He was the author of many love songs loved by many generations such as Love Story of the Sea, Spring Confession, Lonely Star, My Little Story, Purple Flowers Outside the Yard, You and I, Seaside Street, Rain, Old Path We Return...
He passed away at 5:45 a.m. on March 15 at Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi, at the age of 69.
6 - Director - Meritorious Artist Le Dan

Director, Meritorious Artist Le Dan, real name Le Huu Phuoc, was born in 1928 in an intellectual family in Tay Ninh. He is considered one of the first directors of Vietnamese cinema, who contributed to the creation of famous artists such as Tham Thuy Hang, Huynh Thanh Tra, Bang Chau, Kieu Chinh (before 1975), Diem My, Viet Trinh, Thanh Thuy...
In 1950, while studying Law in France, Le Dan went to see the Cannes Film Festival and from there his passion for cinema arose. He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Institute of Cinema Studies in Paris. He directed films such as Loan Mat Nhung, Tinh Lan and Diep, Ong Co Van, Nguoi Con Gai Dat Do, Xuong Rong Den...
He passed away at his home in Ho Chi Minh City at 11:30 am today, February 26. He was 88 years old.
7 - Singer Minh Thuan

Singer Minh Thuan, real name Nguyen Minh Thuan, was born on September 12, 1969 in Saigon. In 1998, Minh Thuan joined the political song group Tien Dat. He was well-remembered during this period when he sang a duet with Nhat Hao with a series of songs: Chiec Thuyen Nan, Mong Doi Ngam Ngui, Co Be Doi Hon, Chi Con Trai Tim, That Tinh, Khong Can Tinh Yeu,....
In the same year 1996, Minh Thuan officially released his own album Vol 2 Loi Chuc Phuc edited by him, still consisting of Chinese songs with Vietnamese lyrics written specifically for him, showing that Minh Thuan had made great progress in his singing voice.
In 1999, Minh Thuan released the album Reu Phong, a collection of 10 Vietnamese love songs edited by Minh Thuan. At the end of 1999, Minh Thuan became the producer and editor of a new album called Ta Chong Con Ai, recorded with Phuong Thanh.
Minh Thuan breathed his last at 8am on September 18, at the age of 47, at Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City).
