In 2017, Nghi Loc had 1,392 Catholic households with good economic performance.
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 28, the Catholic Solidarity Committee of Nghi Loc district organized the 7th Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for National Construction and Defense, term 2012-2017.
Attending the event were Father Phan Van Thang - Vice Chairman of the Catholic Solidarity Committee of Nghe An province, leaders of Nghi Loc district and typical Catholics in the district.
The Catholic community of Nghi Loc district has 12,230 households with over 52,000 people, accounting for 25.3% of the district's population, living in 143/446 hamlets; of which there are 64 all-Catholic hamlets, concentrated in 21/30 communes and towns with 20 parishes and 59 parishes.
During the past term, Catholics in Nghi Loc district have always promoted the tradition of solidarity, overcome all difficulties, actively applied scientific and technical advances in production and livestock farming, successfully transformed crop structure, and improved labor productivity. Many households have developed livestock farming in an industrial direction, and up to now, there are 320 livestock farming families with an income of 50 million VND/year or more. Many households have invested in expanding farm economy, developing forestry and fruit trees for high income.

In 2017, there were 1,975 households developing small-scale handicrafts, an increase of 1,000 households compared to 2012, of which 1,392 households were good at economics. Thanks to the focus on economic development, up to now, the proportion of rich households accounts for 27.3%, the number of well-off households accounts for 55.3%, and the number of poor households is 7.2%.
Not only do they focus on economic development, Nghi Loc Catholics also focus on building social culture and local movements. Many parishes and congregations have invested all resources to build cultural institutions and rural roads with nearly 1 billion VND and more than 1,200 working days to help the locality complete the new rural criteria.
Over the past 5 years, responding to the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas, live a good life and follow good religion", up to now, the Catholic community of Nghi Loc district has 76.2% of households achieving the title of cultural family, an increase of 18.1% compared to 2012.

The congress elected 23 members to the Catholic Solidarity Committee of Nghi Loc district, term VII, 2017-2022; elected 21 members to attend the Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for Building and Protecting the Fatherland, Nghe An province.
On this occasion, the District People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 5 collectives and 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in the emulation movement of Vietnamese Catholics building and defending the Fatherland.
