In 2018, there will be 100 million VND apartments for workers.
The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said that in 2018 there will be about 1,000 low-cost apartments, from 100 to 200 million VND/apartment, for workers.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the 3rd Session of the 14th National Assembly, Mr. Bui Van Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, said that from now until 2018, about 1,000 low-cost apartments, priced from only 100 - 200 million VND/apartment, will be built for workers in industrial parks and export processing zones.

Mr. Cuong said that the Prime Minister has just signed Decision No. 655, approving the Project "Investing in building trade union institutions in industrial parks and export processing zones (IPs-EPZs)". This shows concern for workers' material and spiritual lives. The goal by 2020 is to build 50 institutions in 50 IPs and EPZs nationwide and by 2030, strive for all IPs and EPZs to have trade union institutions.
This delegate stated the reality: Currently, industrial parks and export processing zones only meet 2-10% of the minimum needs for housing, kindergartens, purchasing essential items, legal advice, legal aid, cultural and sports activities, etc. These are issues that workers are very concerned about.
Referring to the construction of low-cost houses of about 100-200 million VND/unit to sell to workers, Mr. Cuong said: All infrastructure, supermarkets, housing, facilities, cultural and sports venues... are invested with union funds; green park infrastructure is funded by the union organization.

Workers can buy a house and pay immediately or in installments over 10 years. "If a couple saves 1.8 - 2 million VND per month, they will be able to buy a house with an area of 30 square meters in 5-7 years," Mr. Cuong calculated.
According to the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, this is a non-profit program and project, so the mechanism has been requested: the State and local authorities provide land without collecting money, the local authorities support traffic infrastructure, electricity and water to the foot of the project. As for the project, the completion will be taken from the savings of the system, and the cost reduction with partners providing construction materials such as Vicem, Viglacera... It is estimated that with a unit price of 4-5 million VND/m2, a 30m2 apartment including living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom... will cost from 100-150 million VND.

Regarding the criteria for selecting subjects eligible to buy low-cost apartments, Mr. Cuong noted that priority will be given to workers who are having difficulties with housing and are working in industrial parks and export processing zones. This must be done strictly to avoid speculation.
The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also announced that from now until 2018, 10 institutions with a total of 10,000 apartments will be built, the first institution will be deployed in Ha Nam, Quang Nam and Tien Giang. From 2019 onwards, 40 more institutions will be built.
"We have been working with the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Ha Nam province to agree on a specific support mechanism and local work to speed up progress due to the huge demand of workers. Around June next year, there will be the first institutional area in Ha Nam with more than 1,000 apartments, at Dong Van Industrial Park (Ha Nam)," said Mr. Cuong./.
