(Baonghean.vn) - On October 21, Nam Dan district held a conference to summarize the 5-year implementation of Resolution 20/NQ-TU and the 2-year implementation of Directive 09/CT-TU of the Provincial Party Committee on continuing to promote population and family planning work in the new situation.

Through the report on the 5-year implementation of Resolution 20/NQ-TU and the 2-year implementation of Directive 09/CT-TU, it shows that: After the implementation of Resolution 20 and Directive 09, the population and family planning work in Nam Dan district has achieved many important results: the annual rate of third or subsequent births reached 17.1% (below the provincial average); the rate of using modern contraceptive methods reached and exceeded 100% of the annual plan target. The average number of children per woman of childbearing age is 2.1, making Nam Dan one of the 5 districts recognized by the province as achieving replacement fertility. The rate of gynecological diseases among women, the rate of abortions, the maternal and child mortality rate, and the rate of malnourished children have decreased significantly. Average life expectancy has increased. The scale and benefits of family planning are increasingly accepted by many people. Communication models have been widely replicated; Many projects, tailored to specific target groups and regional demographic characteristics, have been implemented effectively, making a significant contribution to poverty reduction and the achievement of local socio-economic development goals.

However, the district's population and family planning work still faces many limitations, such as: the birth rate and the rate of having a third child or more have decreased, but slowly and inconsistently. The crude birth rate, the rate of having a third child or more, the rate of gender imbalance at birth, the rate of malnourished children, etc., remain high, and the number of people violating population and family planning policies is on the rise. Some communes have low annual budgets for population work.

Participating in the discussion, many delegates representing various departments and organizations of the district and commune governments clearly analyzed the objective and subjective causes. They also offered lessons learned and solutions for population and family planning work in the future.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Hoa – Deputy Director of the Department of Health and Head of the Population and Family Planning Sub-Department of the province – acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of Nam Dan district in the past period. She also outlined several tasks that need to be done in the future to reduce the birth rate, decrease the gender imbalance, and improve the quality of the population. Alongside propaganda and mobilization efforts, the district needs to improve the provision of family planning services; effectively implement reward policies and promptly and strictly handle violations according to regulations; promote and improve the quality of work of population officials and collaborators; and maximize the mobilization of resources for population and family planning work. On this occasion, the People's Committee of Nam Dan district also awarded certificates of commendation to 8 collectives that have performed well in population work in the past period.
