Nam Dan strengthens forest fire prevention at historical sites
Nam Dan is a district with a large area of pine forests, many of which are adjacent to important historical and cultural relics. In the long hot weather conditions, the risk of forest fires here is always high, especially at relic sites with a large number of tourists visiting every day.
Faced with that situation, the Nam Dan district government has proactively coordinated with the forest rangers and the Management Board of the relic sites to synchronously deploy many forest fire prevention and control measures to ensure forest safety and preserve historical relics.

Right from the beginning of the hot season, at the Hoang Thi Loan Tomb Relic Site in Nam Giang Commune, fire prevention work has been strictly implemented. With a total area of 48.2 hectares, including over 20 hectares of pine forest, this is a destination that attracts thousands of visitors every day, the risk of forest fire is very high if there is carelessness when using fire or throwing away cigarette butts.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi - Head of the Management Board of the relic site of Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan's tomb said: "We always maintain a patrol force, workers collect fallen leaves and process the ground regularly. In addition, the fire prevention system at the relic site has also been invested in a systematic way with 2 pumping systems, 12 water hoses placed at key locations, ensuring readiness to respond when an incident occurs."

In particular, over the past year, the cemetery has invested in an automatic irrigation system that stretches nearly 1km from the foot of the grave to the top of the grave, to reduce the risk of fire. The water supply system for firefighting is taken from the Dao River through 6 pumping stations, ensuring supply to 5 large water tanks with a capacity of 60-100 m³.
In order to strengthen fire prevention at the Hoang Thi Loan tomb relic site, at the forest fire watchtower in Nam Giang commune, the forest rangers coordinated with the Nam Dan Special Use Forest Management Board to organize 24/24-hour patrol. Mr. Nguyen Binh Trong - an officer of the forest management board, said: "The watchtower is located on a tower over 10m high, helping to observe the entire Nam Giang pine forest and neighboring areas such as Nam Linh, Nam Anh, Nam Thanh, even covering a part of the forest in Hung Nguyen and Thanh Chuong districts".

Not only at the tomb of Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan, other relic sites in the area have also been strengthened to prevent fires. At Chung Mountain in Kim Lien commune, the forest rangers have treated the undergrowth of over 70 hectares of forest. At the Mai King Temple relic site in Nam Dan town - where there are nearly 200 hectares of pine forest, nearly 10 km of firebreaks have been maintained and repaired before the peak hot season.

Mr. Vo Trong Cuong - Head of Nam Dan - Hung Nguyen Forest Protection Department said: "The entire Nam Dan district currently has more than 3,000 hectares of pine forests, many of which are adjacent to historical sites. Therefore, fire prevention and control work is always a top priority. Up to now, we have treated nearly 600 hectares of vegetation in key areas."

In addition, the entire district has completed repairing the watchtower system, maintaining nearly 40 km of firebreaks, fully equipped with 42 fire blowers, more than 10 lawn mowers and nearly 1,000 fire extinguishers. Each commune and each cluster of relic sites has a fire prevention and fighting map, including key fire points, gathering places for firefighting, rescue, logistics, ambulance forces... to ensure quick and effective response when an incident occurs.
