2018-2019 school year: Tuition fees for many majors increase sharply
Decree 86/2015/ND-CP of the Government stipulates the mechanism for collecting and managing tuition fees for educational institutions in the national education system and policies on tuition exemption and reduction, support for learning costs, roadmap from the 2015-2016 school year to the 2020-2021 school year.
Accordingly, the tuition ceiling of universities will increase each academic year. Specifically, in the 2018-2019 academic year, public universities that are self-funded for regular and investment expenses will increase tuition fees by VND100,000 - 200,000/month/student compared to the previous academic year, depending on the major.
For example, the tuition fee for the 2018-2019 school year for social sciences, economics, law, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries will increase by a maximum of VND 1,850,000/month/student. The tuition fee for the 2018-2019 school year for natural sciences, engineering, technology, physical education, sports, hotels, and tourism will increase by a maximum of VND 2.2 million/month/student. The tuition fee for the medical and pharmaceutical training will increase by a maximum of VND 4.6 million/month/student.
For universities that have not yet covered their own regular and investment expenses (non-public schools), the tuition fee ceiling for the 2018-2019 school year for the above-mentioned majors will increase by VND810,000/month/student; VND960,000/month/student and VND1,180,000/month/student, respectively.
Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training also proposed to abolish the tuition exemption policy for students majoring in education. The results of the Ministry of Education and Training’s survey showed that tuition exemption is one of the main reasons, attracting over 50% of students majoring in education. However, this has a negative impact on career education.
