South Africa: Lions attack visitors at wildlife reserve.
(Baonghean.vn) - A 22-year-old American female tourist died at an animal park in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday, June 1st, after being attacked by a lion there.
Scott Simpson, the area manager of the Lion Park, told Radio Talk 702: “Her car entered the lion enclosure with the windows open. A lion jumped through the window and attacked the unfortunate tourist. An ambulance was quickly called, but she did not survive.” According to Radio Talk 702, the victim's companion was seriously injured while trying to rescue her.
This amusement park is one of Johannesburg's most popular family-friendly destinations, located less than an hour's drive from the city center. Here, visitors can pet lion cubs, feed giraffes, or throw birthday parties in a wild, natural setting.

However, questions are being raised about the park's safety due to a series of incidents involving visitors. Last March, an Australian tourist was attacked by a lioness while driving a car with the windows open. Two days after that incident, a 13-year-old boy from a nearby neighborhood was attacked by a leopard while riding his electric bike.
Reportedly, the park currently houses 85 lions, including the relatively rare white lion. The park's idea is to allow visitors to get very close to these wild animals and observe their activities. However, warning signs to keep vehicle windows closed are posted everywhere to prevent attacks like the rare incidents mentioned above.
