Male student kills girlfriend and puts her in a styrofoam box, gets 12 years in prison

While hanging out together, a 9th grade male student saw his girlfriend had an expensive phone and murdered her and robbed her.

On August 9, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court of First Instance sentenced Nguyen Pham Quoc Binh (16 years old, residing in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) to 12 years in prison for the crimes of "Murder" and "Robbery".

According to the indictment, Binh and Nguyen Thi Thu Hang (15 years old) are both 9th grade students at a middle school in Go Vap district, Ho Chi Minh City. They both knew each other and hung out with a group of friends.

At around 8:30 p.m. on January 12, Binh went to the alley entrance to pick up Hang to go to Ha Do apartment building (Go Vap district) to play. After parking their car in the basement of the apartment building, the two took the elevator to the 2nd floor and then walked through the emergency exit to the 5th floor of the apartment building.

At this time, Hang took out her phone to text, so Binh saw that the phone was expensive and had the intention of taking it. Binh immediately used his hand to grab Hang's phone but the victim grabbed it back.

Not knowing what Binh was up to, Hang continued texting on her phone. Taking advantage of the victim's inattention, Binh picked up a piece of granite and used it to block the emergency exit door, hitting Hang several times on the head, causing the victim to die on the spot.

After that, Binh took Hang's phone and took the elevator down to the apartment basement to get his motorbike and escape. After that, Binh sold the phone for 900,000 VND and returned home.

At around midnight the next day, afraid that people would find out, Binh brought the bed sheet back to Ha Do apartment.

Here, Binh used a sheet to wrap the victim and then dragged the body to the fire escape on the 5th floor of the apartment building to hide it. Next, Binh went back down to the basement to get a mop to clean up the scene.

On the morning of January 13, discovering their daughter missing, Hang's parents went to the police to report the incident.

Through searching and asking people around, Hang's parents found out that their daughter had gone with Binh the night before, so they went to her house to ask and took Binh to the police station. There, Binh said he had taken Hang to school the night before but did not know where Hang went afterwards.

After leaving the ward police station, fearing being discovered, Binh had the idea of ​​taking the victim's body and dumping it in the Vam Thuat River area, District 12, where Binh often went fishing and knew there were few people around.

Binh went to the market to buy two styrofoam boxes, brought them to Ha Do apartment building, and put the victim's body in them. At around 2:00 p.m. the same day, Binh went to Gia Dinh park and called a tricycle to go to the apartment building to take the victim's body away.

When Binh had just moved the styrofoam box to the ground, the apartment security guard discovered it and asked for the transfer papers. Binh pretended to go down to the ground to get it and then went home, leaving the styrofoam box behind. A while later, when Binh did not return, the apartment security guard became suspicious and called the police, who discovered the incident.
