Nghe An male student sent back from military school gets tuition waiver from Polytechnic University
Quang Quoc Viet, a male student who was sent back from the Information Officer School, has enrolled in Hanoi University of Science and Technology, majoring in Electronics and Telecommunications. Viet was exempted from tuition fees for the first year.
On the afternoon of November 9, Associate Professor Tran Van Top - Vice Principal of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said: "Quang Quoc Viet, 18 years old, Thai ethnic group in Que Phong, Nghe An, scored 22.35 points in the 2018 National High School Exam, while the standard score for the Electronics and Telecommunications major of the school is 22 points. In addition, due to Viet's circumstances, the principal and the school's admissions board both hope that he can enroll."
However, because the 2018 enrollment has been completed and the new students of the 63rd course have been enrolled for more than 2 months, the school must ask for instructions from the Ministry of Education and Training regarding Viet's case.
Immediately after receiving the official dispatch from the Minister of Education and Training requesting the school to consider this candidate, the board of directors decided to create conditions for Viet to enroll.

According to regulations, Viet is entitled to a tuition exemption for ethnic minority students. The maximum amount allowed by the State is 8.6 million VND/year, while the tuition fee for the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications at Hanoi University of Science and Technology is about 18 million VND/year.
Mr. Top said that Viet can receive a scholarship for students with difficult circumstances at the school, because his family is poor/near-poor. The school's support level is about 10 million VND, so the male student does not need to worry about tuition fees in the first year of school.
"But in the following years, whether he receives a scholarship or not depends on Viet's academic performance and efforts. Enrolling 2 months after his friends, Viet will officially start studying at the school from the second semester. Because there are subjects that must be studied in order, one subject must be studied before another subject can be studied, so the school will consider supporting Viet when registering for courses in the second semester," said Mr. Top.
Through contact with this male student, Associate Professor Tran Van Top assessed that Viet has will and determination, but with an exam score of 22.35, only slightly higher than the standard score for the Electronics and Telecommunications major, Viet must try hard to meet the study program at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Previously, with 22.35 points in the national high school exam, Quang Quoc Viet was admitted to NV1 of the Information Officer School (University of Information and Communications) in Khanh Hoa.
However, on September 7, the Information Officer School issued a paper to return candidate Quang Quoc Viet due to tuberculosis, military health classification category 5.
After that, the re-examination results showed that Viet did not have the required height and weight. Viet also went to Hanoi for examination and was determined not to have tuberculosis.
On October 27, the Ministry of National Defense concluded that candidate Quang Quoc Viet was returned from the Information Officer School because he did not meet health standards. Accordingly, the medical examination results at Military Hospital 175 are the final conclusion.
Candidate Quang Quoc Viet is 1.6 m tall and does not meet the admission requirements. According to regulations, ethnic minority candidates applying for military university training must be 1.62 m or taller and weigh 50 kg or more./.
