Poor male student excelled in winning double provincial excellent student award
(Baonghean.vn)- With the achievement of second prize in Physics and third prize in Chemistry in the provincial excellent student exam, Tran Tuan Vu, a student of class 11D, Thanh Chuong 3 High School, made many people admire him for his process of overcoming difficulties and rising up.
Poor family background
Meeting Vu at home on a day off from school, he was working to help his family. The little student who had achieved a "double" in the provincial excellent student exam in March, impressed people around him with his modesty and politeness as well as his intelligent and witty way of speaking. Vu shared: "My achievements today are a source of motivation for me to try harder in the journey ahead, especially the national high school exam next year."

Vu is the eldest child in a farming family of three siblings, in Moi hamlet, Thanh Nho commune, Thanh Chuong district. His family's circumstances are difficult, his father - Mr. Tran Dinh Ngo (52 years old) is disabled, and has had two accidents.
In 2004, while working as a construction worker in the South, he fell from a scaffolding and broke his spine. It took him a whole year to recover. Seven years later, in a traffic accident, he broke his leg again. Although the wound had healed, it was still very difficult for him to move around. Every time he moved, he had to use a wheelchair and wooden crutches. Since Mr. Ngo had the accident, all the heavy work in the house fell on the shoulders of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa - Vu's mother. The family's already difficult life became even more difficult.
No longer able to travel north and south to earn a living like before, Mr. Ngo had to open a small electrical repair shop in front of his house “to distract himself and earn some extra income”, hoping to help his wife and children. However, due to his poor health, the little money he earned was only enough to pay for his medicine and treatment when the weather changed. The family’s living expenses and the children’s education all depended on the crops from Mrs. Hoa’s fields and livestock.

Understanding the family's conditions and feeling sorry for their parents who had to work hard to make a living, Vu and his siblings always tried their best in studying and working. As the eldest child in the family, Vu was always aware of his responsibilities, so he actively shared with his mother the heavy work, even though sometimes Mrs. Hoa did not want it, because she was worried that it would "affect his studies". Last summer, Vu even followed his cousin to work as a carpenter for several months.
Vu honestly said: “The money I earn from my part-time job is enough for me to buy books, study materials and pay for my 11th grade tuition. It also saves my parents some money.”
At school, Vu was a gentle, quiet, diligent student and was jokingly called “Vu clan leader” by his friends. This nickname came from the fact that Vu often had to skip school to take care of the clan’s affairs. Although he was young, he was the head of the clan so he had to “play many roles”, having to replace his father in some of the family’s worship rituals.

And a spectacular "double"
Overcoming the family's difficulties, Vu always tried to study, in secondary school, for 4 consecutive years he was an excellent student at the district level in 2 subjects: Math and English. Vu said that at that time, out of the 3 subjects of block A, he was "afraid" and the worst at Chemistry, but when he was in 10th grade, with the guidance and encouragement of his teacher, he gradually fell in love with this subject without knowing when.
From a student who was “afraid” of Chemistry, Vu has become a “good” Chemistry student in class and at school. In the recent provincial excellent student exam, Vu achieved a “double”: Second prize in Physics and Third prize in Chemistry, which made many people admire (in Chemistry alone, the school had 3 candidates competing, but only Vu won). Vu is the only candidate of Thanh Chuong 3 High School to win 2 prizes in the recent provincial excellent student exam.

Talking about his learning method, Vu shared that due to his family's limited financial situation, in addition to studying at school, he did not go to the training center but only bought materials to study at home. The old computer given by an aunt in his family is an important "treasure" for Vu's learning, thanks to which he can learn more useful knowledge related to the subjects he loves, including learning English online.
Vu's learning perspective for the A block subjects is to focus on basic knowledge, grasp the theory, understand the nature of the problem, do a lot of exercises... "I don't have any secret, other than diligence, hard work and promoting the spirit of self-study" - Vu affirmed.
Talking about the hard-working student, teacher Trinh Van Thach - homeroom teacher of class 11D said: "Vu is a good, gentle, intelligent student who knows how to overcome his family's special circumstances to study well. Hopefully, his efforts will certainly bring many new achievements for himself and the school."
