According to Itar-Tass, the egg mushroom was discovered by a local resident. It is white, densely packed, and weighs 10 kg.
"I've never seen a mushroom this huge, although I've heard that people have discovered 30-kilogram egg mushrooms in other areas," said Svetlana Kuchervoa, a researcher at the Ufa Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The egg mushroom is also known as the ghost mushroom, because no one knows how it grows or when it disappears. It is typically found from around August to the end of October in forest edges, meadows, and grasslands.
When young and with egg-shaped, firm, and chewy flesh, egg mushrooms are edible. However, when they turn brown or yellow, they have begun to rot and are no longer safe to eat.
