As previously reported, on April 17th, a kidnapping occurred at Van Bau market in Dien Bich commune, Dien Chau district.
The suspect, Chu Van Son (35 years old, residing in Quyet Thang hamlet, Dien Bich commune, Dien Chau district), used a knife to threaten a child approximately one year old and slashed the child's arm, causing injury. Afterward, Son continued to use the knife to threaten Nguyen Van Quang (34 years old, residing in the same hamlet) while Quang was riding his motorbike home.
Son sat in the back of the car, holding a knife to the hostage's neck and forcing him to go to his house. When law enforcement officers tried to persuade him and intervened while Son was distracted, Son slashed Quang's neck with the knife, causing the victim to be injured, lose a lot of blood, and faint on the spot.

After being rescued, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang was taken to...The Dien Chau District General Hospital provided emergency treatment, stitching up the neck area with four stitches. Simultaneously, the Dien Chau District Police and Dien Bich Commune Police gave injections to those held hostage by Son – a 2-year-old child, Mr. Quang, and Mr. Nguyen Van Diep – a police officer from Dien Bich Commune (who subdued the suspect).
After receiving treatment, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang was taken back to his home and received medical care from the commune's health station.
Recounting the ordeal of being held captive, Mr. Quang was still visibly shaken. He said: "When Son held me hostage, he held a knife to my neck with one hand and scissors to my hip with the other, forcing me to drive around aimlessly. At that moment, I thought I was going to die. I had to keep my head up because of the knife; if I looked down, my throat would be cut. I was exhausted, completely drained of strength. If he forced me to continue, I would have fainted and fallen onto the road. Luckily, Mr. Diep took advantage of the moment when the assailant was smoking, circled around behind me, and knocked the knife away from my neck, allowing me to escape. Now, with the guidance and care of the doctors and nurses, my health has recovered, but thinking about yesterday feels like a nightmare."
Currently, due to his unstable health and mental state, Mr. Quang is being cared for and treated by his family and staff at the Dien Bich commune health station, and his contact with others is being limited.
