Improving the effectiveness of consumer protection work in Nghe An province

Attending the Congress were comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of departments, branches, Ha Tinh Consumer Rights Protection Association and members of the Association.

Nghe An Provincial Association for Standards and Consumer Protection was established under Decision No. 2347/QD-UBND dated July 6, 2007 of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee (now Nghe An Provincial Association for Consumer Protection), is a member of Nghe An Union of Science and Technology Associations, Vietnam Association for Standards and Consumer Protection.

In recent times, through mass media as well as propaganda activities, seminars, conferences, consumer complaint consulting, Nghe An Consumer Rights Protection Association has become a trustworthy organization in protecting the legitimate rights of consumers; protecting the reputation of genuine production and service enterprises in Nghe An province. Thereby, contributing with the State to prevent and limit fraud in production, business and services; contributing to creating a healthy market, promoting activities to improve productivity, quality, economic and social efficiency in the province.

However, consumer rights protection activities in Nghe An province still face many difficulties such as: Coordination among members of the Consumer Rights Protection Association is still limited, initiative and flexibility are not high; recommendations, warnings and specific instructions have not been given to consumers in the province. Operating budget is not available; propaganda and dissemination activities of State policies and laws on consumer rights protection are mainly integrated into other programs and conferences, so the results are still very modest, and the propaganda effectiveness is not high.

At the Congress, there were many discussions clarifying the achievements and shortcomings so that the new term can achieve better results.

In the 2023-2028 term, the Association will focus on promoting its principles and objectives, mobilizing organizations and individuals in the province to join the Association; Strive for all districts to have active branches; Improve the organization, establish a consulting office, resolve consumer complaints and affiliated branches...

Speaking at the Congress, Comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged that in recent years, consumer protection work in Nghe An has had outstanding achievements and results; today's Congress of the Nghe An Provincial Consumer Protection Association is a milestone of great significance.

The Congress is not only a completion of the structure and network of social organizations participating in consumer protection work, but also a condition to continue effectively implementing the goals of consumer protection work in Nghe An province.

To ensure effective implementation of its goals, the Association needs to quickly develop and complete procedures to promulgate the Association's Charter; coordinate, expand and unify the activities of social organizations participating in consumer protection.

Up to now, Vietnam has nearly 60 Consumer Protection Associations operating in provinces and cities across the country. During its operation, the Consumer Protection Association of Nghe An province needs to pay attention to closely connecting with the above Associations, thereby creating a network of social organizations operating effectively in consumer protection work nationwide in general and Nghe An in particular.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also suggested that in the coming time, the Association should do a good job of connecting information and propaganda between manufacturers and consumers to protect the rights of consumers, help manufacturers improve product information, strengthen control and ensure product and service quality, detect and handle false information or counterfeiting and imitation of genuine products. Departments, branches, sectors, and district-level People's Committees need to coordinate with the Association to develop and implement propaganda programs, disseminate policies and laws on consumer rights protection, etc.

The Congress elected the Executive Committee for the second term; Comrade Nguyen Van Thang - former Deputy Head of the Market Management Department was elected as Chairman of the Nghe An Consumer Rights Protection Association for the 2023-2028 term.
