(Baonghean.vn) - In Nghe An province, there are currently more than 12,000 children in especially difficult circumstances. However, social assistance and care for these subjects still face many difficulties and limitations.

On December 22, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs held a training conference to improve the capacity of social work staff for children in especially difficult circumstances in Nghe An province in 2022.

Attending the conference were representatives of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and more than 500 delegates who were representatives of leaders and officers in charge of children's work of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of districts, cities and towns; cultural and social officials of communes and towns. Speaking at the opening of the conference, Mr. Vi Ngoc Quynh - Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said: According to the reports of districts, cities and towns, currently, in Nghe An province, there are 12,289 children in special circumstances.

However, social assistance and care for children in special circumstances still face many difficulties and limitations, affecting the interests, lives, activities and rights of children; most children in special circumstances live in families and social communities, but social communities in many places still lack knowledge in the issue of assistance, rehabilitation and care for children, especially children with disabilities and orphans.

Meanwhile, social assistance and care for children in special circumstances is not simply about implementing policies and regimes or treating illnesses, but also about performing well the core contents of the social work profession such as: Representing, connecting, referring... and intervening in conjunction with psychosocial rehabilitation to help children quickly integrate into the social community, contributing to reducing the burden on families, communities and society.

Therefore, this conference is organized with the aim of improving the social assistance capacity of social workers and care skills for subjects, especially children in especially difficult circumstances, mentally ill people and people with mental disorders.

At the conference, delegates listened to lecturers from the School of Training and Fostering Officials, Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs disseminate topics such as: Overview of the social work profession; Identification and intervention support process for children in especially difficult circumstances; Instructions on care and rehabilitation for mentally ill people and people with mental disorders at home and in the community; Instructions on how to identify and intervene in children with autism at home and in the community.
