The bumper crop of cantaloupe (musty melon) and its high prices not only bring significant income to melon growers but also create opportunities for those who specialize in selling melons on the streets and in markets throughout Vinh City. Currently, in Vinh City, Nghi Loc, and Cua Lo, there are hundreds of people working as itinerant melon vendors. They serve as a bridge to help farmers sell their produce.

Originally from Nghia Yen commune, Nghia Dan district, Vi Van The rents a room in Nghi Kim commune to work as a street vendor selling fruit in Vinh City. For nearly a month now, he wakes up at 4 am every day, rides his motorbike to Nghi Huong commune to buy cracked watermelons from the fields, and brings them to Vinh City to sell along the roads near Vinh Train Station market. The watermelons are harvested at 12-15 thousand dong per fruit, and after transporting them to Vinh, he sells them retail for 17-22 thousand dong. On average, Mr. The sells 80 watermelons a day, earning a profit of 200-300 thousand dong.
Mr. The confided: "I've been selling fruits on the street in Vinh City for over a year now, selling whatever is in season, from oranges to melons and longan... This job earns me 6-8 million dong a month, but it's hard work. For cracked melons, I have to cut them really early; if the sun comes up, the melons will crack. So every day I have to wake up at 4 am and stand on the street selling all day until all the goods are sold."

Each day he sells 150-200 cracked watermelons. “I went all the way to Nghi Huong and Nghi Thach to buy these watermelons to sell. Yesterday I sold nearly 200 watermelons, after deducting costs and fuel, I made over 200,000 dong in profit. Today I bought 180 watermelons wholesale, but so far I've only sold a few dozen,” Mr. Thuan said.

The honeydew melon season is very short, so traders take advantage of the time to sell the melons for farmers. It is estimated that thousands of honeydew melons are sold each day.
