NATO has closed more than 200 bases in Afghanistan.

August 27, 2012 11:13

The international military coalition in Afghanistan said it has closed 202 bases as part of a troop reduction plan and has handed over 282 bases to the Afghan government.

NATO spokesman Lieutenant Colonel David Olson said the closed bases ranged in size from isolated outposts to bases with 10 to 300 soldiers.

Most of these bases are located along major highways in Afghanistan.

Thus, NATO forces now control only about 800 remaining bases in Afghanistan as of October 2011.
