Wine tasting may seem like a simple activity, but it is a profession that is slowly gaining popularity around the world.

Wine has long been popular. However, not everyone knows how to distinguish or fully enjoy the flavor of a glass of wine. That is why the profession of wine tasting was born.

This profession is most common in Western countries, where wine originated. Wine tasters with their refined sense of taste are responsible for advising customers on choosing quality wines from a wide range of wines as well as ensuring the perfect match between wine and cuisine.

A wine tasting professional is called a Sommelier, who accompanies diners and businessmen. They are the ones who have the ability to perceive flavors and aromas that not everyone can perceive, helping diners at restaurants choose the right wine for their dishes, helping businessmen choose good wines to trade and helping winemakers improve product quality. In Europe, the average salary for a good Sommelier is from 10,000 - 30,000 USD/month.

With the world’s leading wine exports and consumption, Italy is one of the cradles of wine tasting. According to AIS, the Italian Association of Wine Tasters, the number of people registering for wine tasting courses increases by 10-15% each year, of which 60% are women. Scientific studies show that women have a better sense of smell than men, so they can distinguish smells and perceive them better.

However, not everyone can perceive and distinguish each flavor among hundreds of thousands of different wine flavors, so wine tasting is not an easy job. According to AIS, only about 40% of trained people meet the standards.
