Nepal: Bus accident kills at least 33 people

(Baonghean.vn) - Nepalese authorities said on August 15 that at least 33 people were killed after a passenger bus skidded off the road and fell down a hill in Kavrepalanchok, Nepal.

Kavrepalanchok district vice-chairman Bhim Kanta Sharma said that in addition to the 33 dead, more than 35 passengers were injured. The victims were taken to the Nepalese capital Kathmandu by rescue helicopter, Mr. Sharma said. The accident site is about 70 km (43 miles) from Kathmandu.

Mr Sharm also said the death toll could rise.

According to Mr. Sharma, the bodies were scattered all over the hill where the bus crashed, so security personnel were facing a lot of difficulty in collecting the bodies and rescuing the survivors.

The cause of the accident is still unknown. According to security personnel, the bus rolled more than 300 meters along the hillside when the accident occurred.
