Promoting professional ethics of Vietcombank officials and party members

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once said: “Morality is the root of a revolutionary”. The standardization of Party members’ ethics is extremely important because it is the process of realizing the model of people who represent the entire political system. Ethics is not only reflected in daily lifestyle, culture, and behavior, but also in the work that one is doing.

In fact, any economic sector will need professional ethics. However, professional ethics for officers in the banking sector is extremely important because the banking sector is a cash flow industry in the economic sector and professional ethics risks can occur in all professional activities. To promote responsibility in the work process, good implementation of professional ethics for officers and party members of Vietcombank is closely linked to Uncle Ho's teachings.

In January 1965, in a letter to the Conference of Bank Officials, President Ho Chi Minh advised: “Money management is a very important task in the process of building socialism. Bank officials are responsible for keeping money for the state and the people, and must learn how to manage money well, not to waste or lose it. Every penny of capital invested must ensure an increase in social wealth, must circulate quickly, and must not be stagnant. We must actively mobilize idle money to put into production.”

He also said: “Banking staff must always cultivate revolutionary ethics, be thrifty, honest, impartial, and more thoroughly understand the Party and State's policies and guidelines, study theory and professional skills in depth, and improve working methods to serve production and people's lives more and better.” President Ho Chi Minh's teachings for banking staff and the Vietnamese banking industry are always remembered by generations of banking staff, considering them as a guideline for all activities.

Imbued with Uncle Ho's thoughts and advice, Vietcombank always puts the ethics of its cadres first. Every year, Vietcombank always has inspection topics for grassroots party committees to check party work as well as orient the implementation of political tasks closely following the orientation of the headquarters. Thereby, promptly handling and reviewing violations of party members, especially in the issue of cadres' professional ethics.

For many years now, Vietcombank's code of conduct on professional ethics for officials has also been issued as a set of Code of Professional Ethics for Officials. This code of ethics follows and is always updated according to the directions of the Party and the State. Party members of Vietcombank's Party cells and grassroots Party Committees always fully comply with this code of ethics, setting themselves as an example to spread to the remaining masses at Vietcombank.Vietcombank.

In addition, every year, party members at Vietcombank have a self-criticism report to criticize and self-criticize in party work. Looking back at the results achieved, the shortcomings and limitations will help party members evaluate themselves, what they have done and have not done, especially in implementing the commitment to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh.

Branches also have annual self-assessment workshops for each checkpoint to assess potential risks in the branch’s operations. These workshops will assess all areas of operations from credit operations, capital mobilization operations, money transfer payments and other operations.

Vietcombank assesses these risks not only from the customer side, objective causes but also risks from Vietcombank staff. Through the assessment, it will help staff have a more general view of situations of violations of professional ethics that have occurred and may occur in order to avoid violations in similar situations.

The implementation of professional ethics standards for Vietcombank party members and officials is not only based on practical work practices at Vietcombank but also on the will and thinking of Vietcombank officials.
