Neuer made a mistake, Bayern lost to Arsenal

Goals from Oliver Giroud and Mesut Ozil gave Arsenal a 2-0 win to move back into the Champions League race.

Arsenal seemed to have returned from hell when they defeated Bayern at the Emirates Stadium on the evening of October 21. Before that, the London team was at risk of being eliminated early after two consecutive losses to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos.

Coach Wenger's students have given a suitable answer to those who doubted their ability. Defeating one of the strongest teams in the world, Bayern, brought important points as well as a huge advantage in spirit in the remaining sprint phase.

Bayern had the majority of possession as usual but Arsenal were the better team to take advantage of their chances. Giroud opened the scoring for the home team in the 77th minute when goalkeeper Neuer rushed out to block a Santi Cazorla free kick.

Arsenal's victory was assured in stoppage time when Ozil made it 2-0 after a quick counter-attack. The linesman determined that Neuer had pushed the ball from behind the line and awarded the goal to the German midfielder.

Arsenal are currently third in Group F behind Bayern and Olympiakos. In the same match, Olympiakos beat Dinamo Zagreb to move up to second place with six points, level with Bayern.

The battle between Arsenal and Bayern turned into a duel between the two best goalkeepers in the world, Petr Cech and Manuel Neuer. The duo were the main reason why the first half ended goalless.

Bayern had more possession than Arsenal, up to 74.5% in the first half, so there were more chances. Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski tried Cech but failed. On the other side, Neuer, although not having to move much, made a spectacular one-handed save after Walcott's close-range header.

However, the most important factor of a goalkeeper is not to make mistakes, which caused Neuer to lose to Cech in the battle at Emirates. Neuer's failed push to push the ball out allowed Giroud to head into an empty net to open the score, creating a turning point in the match.

This is Giroud's fourth goal of the season coming off the bench. In previous seasons, Giroud was always trusted to start, but after losing this position to Walcott, the French striker is especially dangerous in the role of "super sub". In the match that took place last weekend, Giroud also contributed a goal in the 3-0 victory over Watford when coming on in the second half.

Arsenal continue to surprise fans every time they are pushed into a corner and are considered underdogs. Performances against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos left them underdogs against Bayern but the end result was a bitter one for the German side.

Arsenal will next visit the Allianz Arena in the Champions League and their recent performance will give Wenger and his team confidence.
