The Print newspaper reported that the BrahMos missile deal between Vietnam and India has stalled because Hanoi is negotiating directly with Moscow.

According to the India-based newspaper The Print, contrary to information appearing in the Vietnamese media in early August about Hanoi having ordered the BrahMos supersonic anti-ship cruise missile, there are now many signs that Vietnam is reconsidering the proposal.

An unnamed source said that the main problem with price as well as technology is seen as a major barrier to exporting the weapon made by the Russian-Indian joint venture to the Southeast Asian country.

Although India has provided Vietnam with a credit line of 500 million USD, its use is not entirely up to Vietnam but also depends on India's proposal. In fact, most of it has been disbursed to build offshore patrol vessels and repair anti-submarine frigate Petya.

Another factor that should be mentioned is that BrahMos is marketed by a state-owned company controlled by the Indian Government, which will cause some hindrance due to complicated administrative procedures./.
