The Supreme Court of Gibraltar on July 5 decided to detain the Iranian oil tanker Grace 1 for another 14 days, despite the Islamic Republic's call to "immediately release" the ship.

An Iranian oil tanker was seized on suspicion of supplying crude oil to Syria in violation of European sanctions.

In response to reports that it had acted at the request of the United States, the Gibraltar government affirmed that the decision was based on consideration of existing legal regulations, not on the basis of foreign political assessments or at the request of any government.

According to the Gibraltar Public Prosecution Service, the Grace 1 oil tanker will be detained until July 19, as Iran has not yet proven the origin of the oil, nor the destination of the seized ship.
