"Most of the 'fires' in the Middle East arise because of Washington's policy. The risk of conflict does not disappear and we once again call on responsible figures - if there are such people in Washington - to weigh the consequences, to be cautious before reckless steps," said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (part of the Iranian military) said on June 20 that the Iranian military shot down a US drone at the entrance to the Persian Gulf for violating Iranian airspace. Later, the US Central Command announced that an Iranian air defense missile system shot down a US Navy drone over the Strait of Hormuz, in international airspace.
Earlier, the New York Times, citing sources from the US government, said that US President Donald Trump had approved military strikes against Iran for shooting down an American drone, but he later canceled the order.
