In a statement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also affirmed that the 29-member military alliance is seeking to strongly intervene in the Republic of Macedonia in order to force the country to join NATO.
According to him, this only increases tensions and divisions in Europe. In his statement, the Head of Russian Foreign Affairs emphasized that NATO's use of force to attract Macedonia only confirms that the "open door" policy has become a goal and a tool to gain control of geographical territory.
Meeting on July 11-12 in Brussels (Belgium), NATO leaders agreed to invite Macedonia to start talks to join the alliance, thereby expanding its vision in the Balkans region, challenging Russia after a historic agreement with Greece on the new name of this former Yugoslav republic.
