In a statement posted on Telegram, Oleg Morgun, a Russian-appointed official in Mariupol, said the attack on Mariupol city, Donetsk province, did not cause any casualties or damage to infrastructure, and emergency services were present at the scene to handle the situation.
Donetsk People's Republic officials also said many of the explosions in the city were caused by Ukrainian missile strikes.
According to CNN, the site of the attack was the Azovstal Steel Plant. Petro Andriushchenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian mayor of Mariupol, also said that the attack took place on the Azovstal Plant area and that Russian emergency response personnel were clearing the rubble. According to him, Russian forces had set up checkpoints blocking a bridge near the Azovstal Plant and set up an ammunition depot near the plant. However, Ukraine has denied Russia's accusations of the attack.
Mariupol is one of the cities in the area that Russia announced it would annex in early October 2022 and is speeding up the reconstruction process./.
