“We have repeatedly stressed that Russia is not present on the territory of Donbass,” Peskov told reporters, referring to a large area in eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian separatists. “That is why we consider these statements inappropriate and incorrect,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
Earlier, on June 20, a White House spokesman announced that the sanctions imposed by the US on Russia will remain in place unless Moscow withdraws from eastern Ukraine.
Also related to Russia-US relations, Mr. Peskov stated that Moscow is considering applying a series of retaliatory measures to deal with new sanctions that the US plans to impose on Moscow related to its role in Ukraine.
According to Mr. Peskov, the Kremlin does not rule out the possibility of holding a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Group of 20 (G20) summit in Germany next month, but "so far the specific content has not been agreed upon by both sides."
