Russia releases video of super laser weapon deployed in combat
The Peresvet laser weapon complex has been put into service with the Russian army, but its real function remains secret.
The Russian Ministry of Defense yesterday released a video of the deployment of the Peresvet laser weapon system at a secret base. This is the second of six new-generation Russian super weapons to be put into service, after the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic anti-ship missile complex.Sputnikreport

In the video, the protective wall is pulled back, revealing a Peresvet combat vehicle. Most of the vehicle's body remains inside the hangar, with only the white laser cluster exposed. A soldier uses a joystick to control the direction of the laser beam, but the video does not show the testing of the weapon.
The Russian military said it had begun to deploy the Peresvet on December 1, while training courses are being held to help soldiers master this modern weapon system. Peresvet is the most secretive of the six super-weapon systems expected to help Russia maintain its superpower status, as its functions and technical specifications remain completely confidential.
Many experts believe it can perform air defense missions, intercept aircraft and missiles, and even disable satellites in orbit. Others believe Peresvet is a jamming system, blinding the enemy's optical-electronic sensor systems.
