Russia releases video of weapon test that shoots down satellite
RT has just released a video of Russia successfully testing a high-altitude defense system capable of intercepting enemy satellites.
Footage released by the Russian Defense Ministry on April 1 showed the test at the Sary Shagan test site in Kazakhstan, where Russia often tests its ballistic missiles. The missile was seen rising into the sky towards its target.
Speaking after the launch, Deputy Commander of the air defense and missile defense unit of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Colonel Andrey Prikhodko, said that the new defense system had completed its mission and destroyed the intended target within the set time.

Although he did not declare which system the missile just launched belonged to, the Colonel said that this weapon specializes in protecting Moscow from air and space attacks, as well as performing early warning missions for missile attacks and controlling space.
Based on this information, many experts believe that the weapon that Russia has just successfully tested is the A-235 high-altitude defense system - a weapon designed to shoot down high-altitude targets such as enemy satellites.
The A-235's interception capability will be divided into 3 levels: 51T6 missile will intercept at a distance of 1,500km and an altitude of over 800km; 58R6 missile - 1,000km and 120km; 53T6M or 45T6 missile will intercept targets at a distance of 350km and an altitude of 40-50km.
All of them are capable of carrying nuclear warheads to enhance the ability to destroy enemy intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). With the interception height achieved, Russia believes that the A-235 system is completely capable of shooting down enemy satellites.
When fully deployed, the A-235, along with the S-500, will be Russia's main high-altitude defense systems that can challenge any attack from ICBM missiles or shoot down any enemy satellites that threaten Russia.
