Russia responds to US statement on providing S-300 to Syria
The supply of S-300 to Syria will stabilize the situation in the region and ensure the safety of the Russian military, Vladimir Yermakov, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control, said.

Earlier, US National Security Advisor John Bolton stated that Moscow's plan to supply the S-300 air defense missile system to the Syrian army would mean a "significant escalation" of the situation in Syria from Russia.
“In fact, these actions will lead to the stabilization of the region, because if necessary we can close the airspace where we need it, and so first of all our troops, which are carrying out their international duties at the request of the Syrian government, will be protected,” Mr. Ermakov said when asked to comment on Mr. Bolton's words.
On September 24, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced measures to improve the security of the Russian military in Syria following the crash of the IL-20 plane, which Russia said was responsible for Israel.
