Mr. Tkachev said this at a meeting with Chinese Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu.
"We are ready to propose a project to transfer fresh water from the Altai region of Russia through the Republic of Kazakhstan to the arid Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China. In the near future, we will consult with our colleagues from Kazakhstan on this issue," Tkachev said.
The fact is that Russian regions have abundant fresh water resources. Therefore, "with the aim of effectively and rationally using the water resources of the Altai region, the Ministry of Agriculture proposes to consider the possibility of supplying 70 million cubic meters of fresh water to the arid regions of China through Kazakhstan," the Ministry of Agriculture said.
