Russia sends Chechen special forces to protect airbase in Syria. |
The newspaper "Izvestia" reported that two military units were created in 2003, and for a long time were supplemented with native Chechen residents, thus bearing the unofficial name "Chechen special forces".
As experts predict: the servicemen of these two battalions will become a reliable force protecting the Russian air force from the sabotage of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS). The two special forces battalions "West" and "East" have a lot of experience in fighting in mountainous and urbanized areas.
Such skills, experts say, are essential to ensure the security of Russian military bases in Syria.
