"We have developed an anti-drone (UAV) gun. It is capable of suppressing GSM signals for mobile phones as well as WiFi signals in the 2.4 and 5.6 GHz bands," Sputnik quoted Konstantin Abashkin, deputy director of Zala Aero Group, a subsidiary of the Kalashnikov group, as saying on August 22.

Dubbed REX-1, the gun was first unveiled at Russia’s Army-2017 defense exhibition, which took place from August 22 to 27. Kalashnikov said the REX-1 can be used for a variety of purposes, from protecting personal privacy to maintaining security in crowded places.

The REX-1's ability to suppress radio signals causes the UAV to lose control, crash on the spot, or return to its starting point. Additionally, when police discover an object suspected of being a homemade explosive, they can use the REX-1 to block all surrounding phone signals, disabling the ability to remotely detonate the bomb.

REX-1 is also equipped with a laser sight, a global positioning system (GPS) jamming module, a GLONASS positioning signal transceiver and a small camera.
